For some new New Wash users there is no transition period. For many however, it can take some time and requires patience. You might transition within a few washes, or it could take up to 2/3 weeks.
There are a few main tips we share that help almost all new users get over the hump.
You need to be sure that you are using enough New Wash and massaging it vigorously into the scalp. Use your fingertips and really scrub - like they do in a salon. Then take more as needed to work down and through the length of your hair. You want the hair well coated and you want fingers or a comb to brush through easily. We suggest leaving the New Wash on while you do the rest of your cleaning. Finally, you need to rinse really well. Again, use fingers to massage the New Wash out.
For many it is also important, initially, to wash more frequently or even to wash twice the first few times. This is necessary because your body needs some time to realize it can stop producing the oil it is so used to replacing. This might mean washing every day for a week or more for some.
We have put together additional information and FAQs on our Art of Washing page, http://hairstory.com/art-of-washing. Many have found it helpful in their transition.
We know from years of experience that New Wash can work for all hair types, you just need to be persistent and patient. We promise it is worth it!
